How to Install Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2018

Before you start installation, I would request you to go through the System Requirements recommended by Microsoft. Keeping all the required configuration ready before installing Dynamics NAV is a good practice as it ensures that all feature of the product will be available in working condition.

I believe you have prepared your system with pre-requisite component reading above link webpage. Let’s start with our installation process. Please follow the below steps:

1. Navigate to the downloaded W1DVD folder and select the setup.exe file, right click the selected setup.exe file and click Run as administrator.




2. Once you run the setup.exe file, it will open the installation wizard as shown in below screen shot. Click the Next button.



3. As Dynamics NAV 2018 is a licensed product of Microsoft, in the next screen installation wizard will ask for your agreement, accept the agreement.


4.  Next screen of installation wizard will provide you with two option:

    1. Install Demo : choosing this option will take care of every component and install all of them.
    2. Choose an installation option : This is a custom installation option in which you can install or omit the component as per your requirement.

We will choose Install Demo option here in this article, will cover up other option in next upcoming articles.

Now click Install Demo.


5. Installation of Dynamics NAV 2018 will be started as shown in below screen shot, sit back and relax.



6. Once the installation wizard will complete with the installation process, it will provide you with success message.


Let’s check what components of Dynamics NAV 2018 have been installed in our system. Click start button  ➡ all programs:
  • Dynamics NAV 2018 (Client Application)
  • Dynamics NAV 2018 Administration
  • Dynamics NAV 2018 Administration shell
  • Dynamics NAV 2018 Development Environment
  • Dynamics NAV 2018 Development shell

As a developer mainly we would be interacting with:

1. Development Environment


2. Client application (RTC)



3. Administration (NAV Server)
